You've finally written your piece, but something about it is a bit off... but what?
The Writer's Eye: Editing Like a Writer is a course that will give you a repeatable process for troubleshooting your own written work. Through a ton of writing drills, we'll train your eye in paying attention to the words and sentences that create the reading experience. By the end of class, you'll have practiced spotting what works and what doesn't, understanding why something doesn't work, and identifying what can be done to make it work—transforming that ugly zero draft into polished writing.
Note: Most of our courses are for writing stories, but the tools given in this class can be applied to writing articles, academic papers, business correspondence, etc.
Minimum age for this workshop: 14 years oldOnline class duration: 7 days
The Writer's Eye: Editing Like a Writer is taught by Filipino writing teacher, Dr. Joem Antonio. A published author and playwright, he holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from UP Diliman and is an eight-time Palanca Award winner. He believes that writing is a skill that can be learned by even those who weren't magically "born with the talent." Through his writing courses and workshops, he teaches writing as a science, leaving students with clear methods that allow them to move their writing projects forward.
We conduct our online classes using Google Classroom, Drive, Calendar, and Meet. All coursework (text lectures and writing exercises) are available at the start of class and are meant to be accomplished at the student's own pace within the class duration. The class includes one call with a personal writing coach and a Q&A video chat with Dr. Joem, but availing of these is optional. Those who submit all required writing exercises by the deadline will receive a digital certificate. Students aged 8-12 are required to have a parent or guardian to assist going through coursework. This course is part of the Storywriting Skills Bootcamp.
You may enroll in it as a standalone course, but you may also take it as part of an intensive 28-day program.
Are you ready for an intense, month-long, online writing program?
The Storywriting Skills Bootcamp is a four-week online bootcamp that will help you sharpen your skills for the four stages of story building: brainstorming, pre-writing, writing, and rewriting. Through short lectures and a ton of writing drills, you'll gain the habits necessary to make each stage easier than before.
The Storywriting Skills Bootcamp is comprised of four consecutive seven-day online courses. If you'd like to know more about them, please click/tap on the course titles below.
Note: You may register for any of these courses individually if you prefer not to take them in bootcamp mode. Bootcamp mode is more strict and will have less hand-holding from our coaches.
What are the differences between a regular student and a bootcamper?
The bootcamp fee must be fully paid the day prior to the first day of the first course in the bootcamp.
The bootcamp fee is a payment for the specific dates included in the bootcamp. Students enrolled in a bootcamp ("bootcampers") WILL NOT be allowed to transfer to later schedules.
Bootcampers will not be entitled to grace periods that Storywriting School gives to those who are enrolled to individual courses.
Bootcampers will only be entitled to two (2) coaching video calls throughout the duration of the bootcamp, instead of one per course for those who are enrolled to individual courses.
